Sketches

So much of my work is dependent on drawing.

Finished paintings are a bit like sentences, impossible to create coherently without vocabulary.
Drawing is my vocabulary.

The other pleasing thing about having sketchbooks going back a while, is being able to go back through them and remember people and places.

Sometimes the smallest scribble brings to mind a model, a fellow artist, or a particular place. On occasion I'm shocked at how badly I was drawing on a particular day, or how I managed to do such a bad job of someone I know to be beautiful !

These sketches are from Tuesday's life drawing class, I particularly like the way they tell a story of the evening, sort of like a comic.

hot damn, you're so talented.

The love of my life had a self-portrait in charcoal in his home very similar to this, but he was in The Thinker pose.

I love these drawings. I wish i had one!

Hello Sam...beautiful sketches. I know what you mean about the sketch being the framework for the painting. It's been a long time since I have sketched. And there are times that I know I should be sketching more, instead of blabbing online, but...
then I wouldn't be able to visit you as much!

anyway, glad someone has his priorities in check.

love and peace to you, my British friend.
