Leaving me this week.....

Some canvases are hard to let go.

This one means a lot to me, I think the rain is how I was feeling the day I painted it.

However, I'm always at my happiest when I know the new owners will love it.
When a close friend buys a piece, it's a real compliment. If that happens at a momentous event in their lives, it's a lottery win.

BIG LOVE to Beachfreak and Gingerwitch, (It was her birthday pressie).
Me and mine wish you all you hope for, in this summer of your wedding, and always.

I've been walking through the house tonight, room to room, taking my time and trying to bring a bit of sense to the paint, charcoal, photographs and other scribblings which adorn our walls.

It's with warmth I realise that over the last few years we have managed to collect some really wonderful work. None of it particularly valuable (yet!), all of it priceless.

Trevor Woods' lighthouse at Happisburgh; Graham Corney's b&w snap of discarded red telephone boxes; Leofric Baron's trio of outsider sketches (including A Cat in a Man's Suit on a Hot Day); Simon Kasumba's sunflowers; my own b&w photo of gorgeous Charlotte on her wedding day, head flicked away in the full knowledge of how damned fine she was looking; a winter scene of oak, river and snow by my dear departed grandmother; and Nik's beautiful study of breast and baby.

In amongst this eclectic, random mix is the work of my great buddy knifepainter. A charcoal sketch of a sleeping Kits and rabbit on the beach; the very pregnant witch with her kit off; and a couple of smaller life drawings 'won' in that excellent blind auction run at the last C21 show.

The latest addition, featured in this post, has slipped in a treat. And for those who have stuck with my now rather frequent rambling, it's this next point I want to share with you.

Storm, as it will probably be called, is a fantasticly schizophrenic painting. As I move around our hallway, where it has been newly hung by an over excited birthday girl, the light and the mood changes according to angle. At once angry, then bright and optimistic, and then totally grumpy again!

I know I sound like a pretty boy, but buying this painting was a great moment in time and I look forward to enjoying it for years to come.

Big storm, big love.

Wow! "Storm" is the best yet! Another stunner! I understand why you would not want to let this one go...it is gorgeous. I love the way you paint landscapes. Your brushstrokes and the texture and the color...just beautiful. I think you really identify with the land and seascape, Sam. It apparent in this piece especially.

And Happy Birthday, Gingerwitch! It is a beautiful present. I especially like schizophrenic paintings!

I can't possibly comment

I, on the other hand, CAN comment on how well hung it is.

As with all these things, it's about placement. Getting it to fit into the space available.

You don't want too much space around the edges, or to have to squeeze it into........ok, I'll stop now.

In summary, well hung.
